Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started out as a kid painting and drawing. Theatre has also played a huge role in who I have become. With those powers combined, art for me has spanned across a lot of mediums.
Recently, I designed the set for Appropriate at The Station Theatre. It was by far one of the most challenging but rewarding designs I have ever created. Here’s a really great article that mentions my set.
That has lead me to be given the opportunity with a new exciting business Champaign-Urbana Adventures in Time and Space. I am utilizing skills in an environment that is sort of unheard of. I am designing essentially movie sets in a multi room office space and old performance space that is used as a team building, riddle solving, clue hunting adventure. The owners did an interview with Buzz Magazine and had some cool things to say.
I have to say that had it not been for the burlesque vaudeville troupe (Carnivale Debauche) that a fellow artist and I started a few years back, I wouldn’t be me today. That group of creators showed me how to collaborate with sometimes 40 people, what creating a “family” of artists meant, how to wrangle cats as they say, how to cook for an army- literally. I loved every bit of that experience and have life long friends and partners in creating because of it. Though I have moved on to other endeavors these days, that period of time will be forever cherished. It taught me a lot about myself.
These days, I live by the ways of art- it is in my blood and I breathe it. I like to make all sorts of things- I seem to be unable to stick to just one craft. I like to feed people, I wish the world to become a better place.
Welcome to my crazy world of creating. Hope you like it here.
